海菜腔声动蒙特利尔 | Haicai Qiang of the Yi Nationality Heard in Montreal
The second phase of the Fifteenth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP 15) to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) is held in Montreal, Canada from December 7 to 19. Yunnan sent an official delegation to attend the conference, and brought many "Yunnan elements" to the venue, among which Haicai Qiang (Haicai Tune) of the Yi Nationality is an eye-catching one.

Haicai Qiang of the Yi Nationality is a local traditional music popular in Honghe Hani and Yi Autonomous Prefecture of Yunnan Province. It is said that it originated from a small tune sung by local ancestors when they were fishing on Yilong Lake, and it was named after this for an aquatic herb in the local Yilong Lake which is called "haicai". With a history of nearly 700 years, it is known as the "living fossil" of Yunnan ethnic music. It has a wide vocal range, and its tunes are either high and exciting or melodious. The true and false conversion of natural sound without leaving a trace is really amazing.
彝族海菜腔是流行于云南省红河哈尼族彝族自治州的地方传统音乐，相传起源于当地先民划着小船在异龙湖上打鱼、捞海菜时哼唱的小调，距今已有近700年的历史，被称为云南民族音乐的“活化石”。海菜腔音域宽广，曲调或高亢激越、或婉转悠扬，而演唱中真假声不露痕迹的自然转换，更是令人叫绝。

Folk singers Li Huaixiu (李怀秀), the older sister, and Li Huaifu (李怀福), the brother, from Shiping County of Honghe Prefecture performed in Montreal this time. They performed at the first stage of COP15 in Kunming last October. "I'm thrilled and honored to be invited back." Li Huaixiu said that Haicai Qiang is an original singing passed down from generation to generation. The lyrics sing about the mountains and rivers, flowers and trees, birds and animals, insects and fish in hometown, vividly reflecting the concept of harmonious coexistence between human beings and nature. Even the name "haicai" has something to do with biodiversity conservation, because the sea cauliflower (haicai) can only grow in a clear and clean water.
本次赴蒙特利尔表演的，是来自红河州石屏县的著名海菜腔歌手李怀秀、李怀福姐弟。去年10月在昆明举行的COP15第一阶段会议上，两人就曾登台表演。“再次接到邀请，十分激动，十分荣幸。”李怀秀说，海菜腔是代代相传的、原生态的唱腔，歌词里唱的，是家乡的山山水水、花草树木、鸟兽虫鱼，生动地体现了人与自然和谐共生的理念；就连名字“海菜”，也与生物多样性保护有关系，因为有着“清流精灵”之称的海菜花，只有在清澈洁净的水环境中才能生长。"We will do our best to do great performance, let Haicai Qiang shine on the international stage." 李怀秀介绍，本次赴蒙特利尔，她和弟弟李怀福带上了华丽精美的花腰彝服饰、做工精良的龙头四弦琴，挑选了《金鸟银鸟飞起来》《今天日子好》《月光下的小船》等多首曲子，“我们会竭尽全力做好每一场表演，让海菜腔在国际大舞台上绽放光芒。”
